The Bout of Books Read-a-thon is now over. I’m quite pleased with my progress this week, having got through four of the five books I originally planned to.
The community spirit in this event is fantastic – very encouraging and motivational! Huge thanks to the organisers for putting it all together, especially the twitter chats! I won’t try to name everyone because I’m sure there are more people involved than I know of or can remember, but you all deserve a big round of applause and to put your feet up for a few days at least!

Books I Read
- Kingdom, Anderson O’Donnell
- Birdie Down, Jim Graham
- Cinder, Marissa Meyer (my review) – Plus the free prequel short story, Glitches
- Talisman of El, Alecia Stone
- Across the Universe, Beth Revis – about 30% of it
The problem with ebooks is that they have no page count so I can’t get a total figure for pages read, but I can sort of approximate – Across the Universe is 398 pages in total and Cinder is 387, so assuming the rest are about the same length that’s over 1500 pages I’ve read. Not too shabby!

Thoughts on Read-a-Thons
I am now a read-a-thon fan. My to-read pile was staring at me every time I was at a computer or near my desk (where my physical Pile is), but at least now I know that if I put in a few nights of reading, I can make an impression on the Pile before it buries me!
Seven days is a lot of days to be reading in every bit of spare time – I found by the fourth or fifth day I had to take a break and do something else so I didn’t burn out on reading. Sure, I could have read more if I’d really tried, but I’m happy with the progress I did make and I’m not a complete wreck now, at the end of it.
One thing I wanted to do and didn’t really get to was to visit and comment on the blogs of those taking part. Because I wasn’t at my computer much except for at work, I didn’t really get a chance to look at blogs at all. I plan to make up for this by commenting on as many wrap-up or progress posts as I can this week. I also need to write some reviews!
